What do the Internet Archive, Ancestry.com, and The Legal Genealogist have in common? They all boast impressive tools and helpful advice for genealogists—and they’re all honorees on our 23rd annual list of the 101 Best Genealogy Websites. With so many websites and online tools available, you might not know where to start, or which services are worth your time and attention. So each year, our editors compile this list in our July/August issue to highlight only the most useful. Sites new to the list include AncientFaces and the Guild of One-Name Studies. As always, the list is divided into categories based on subject (Best Cemetery Websites, Best European Genealogy Websites, and so on), making it easier for you to find a resource that matches your needs. The best part? Nearly 90% of these websites are totally free to use. And most of the remaining honorees have at least some features you can use without spending a dime. As a bonus this year, we’re launching our list of the 75 Best State Genealogy Websites earlier than we have in the past. Like the general 101 Best list, these resources are overwhelmingly free, and boast all manner of records and documents important to your US research. In the online version of the 75 Best State Websites list, you can filter by US state or territory. If your favorite genealogy website didn’t make the cut for either list this year, reach out and let us know! The genealogy world is always changing and evolving, and we want to keep our readers up to date on the tools most likely to help them learn about their ancestors. |
