Today more than 17 million Americans can claim Italian ancestry. If you’re ready to get to the roots of your Italian family search, then this four-week course is for you. We’ll explore how to conduct research and find records in North America, Italy, and on the best websites for Italian genealogy.

From the years 1880 to 1920, more than 4 million Italians immigrated to the US, where they set up ethnic enclaves from New York to Chicago.

Today, more than 17 million Americans can claim Italian ancestry. If you’re one of those individuals and are ready to reach down into your Italian roots, then Find Your Italian Ancestors is the course for you.

You'll learn how to trace your Italian ancestors through the political and social events that affected their lives, how to find records to trace your ancestors' journey from the old country, and how to overcome research obstacles so your research stays on track!

Over the course of 4 weeks, you’ll learn:

• How historical events and the political structure affect record keeping
• How to understand key Italian genealogy terms
• How to find your Italian place of origin
• What Italian records you can find and how to obtain them
• Where to look for records in Italy and what sort of documents you can find
• How to overcome common problems and brick walls in Italian genealogy

Plus: You’ll have instructor Melanie Holtz there to answer your questions and guide you through each step of the way.

How do Family Tree University Courses work?

Take the course at your own pace! From the course start date, you’ll be able to log in to view and access your lessons and start interacting on the discussion boards. Your instructor will check in regularly to answer all of the questions and provide feedback. You will have access to your courses anytime, anywhere, with a computer, tablet or smartphone, and can study when it's most convenient for you.

After the course end date, the course will become read-only for one year. You will continue to have access through your dashboard to the materials, but the discussion boards will be closed. The materials are yours to keep. You can download them onto your desktop to access online or offline.
