Gena Philibert-Ortega holds a Master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and a Master’s degree in Religion. Presenting on various subjects involving genealogy, women’s studies and social history, Gena has spoken to groups throughout the United States and virtually to audiences worldwide. Gena is the author of hundreds of articles published online and in

print. Her books include Cemeteries of the Eastern Sierra (Arcadia Publishing, 2007) and From the Family Kitchen (F+W Media, 2012). Her current research interests include social history, community cookbooks, signature quilts and researching women’s lives.

In this workshop we will discuss food history in relation to family history and then we will discover ways to preserve our family's food history by documenting heirlooms and gathering recipes.

We will then learn how to take those family heirlooms and create cookbooks, recipe tea towels, and other items to give as gifts or to use in our own home.

Finally, we will discuss ways to share that family food history including social media tools such as Pinterest.

In this course you’ll learn:

How food is intertwined with family history
How to find and choose recipes
How to preserve recipes both physically and digitally
How to create and share your family recipe cookbook
New project ideas for after you finish your cookbook
