How I'm Giving My Research a Refresh |
It’s hard to believe but we’re already almost one full month into 2023! It's taking a concerted effort on my part to remember the goals I set for this year and not let too many days pass by without putting them into practice. The new year's momentum may be wearing off, but the truth is it’s always a good time for a genealogy restart or refresh. Systematically reviewing what you already know has many benefits; it can help you get more organized, re-frame problems in a better way, and give you a fresh dose of motivation. Here are five simple ways to give your research a refresh: That first bullet point is what I'm focusing on in the new year. As I'm sure many of you know, it's genealogy best practice to start with yourself and systematically work backwards. I've done family history interviews with my grandparents but I haven't ever sat down and intentionally talked about genealogy with either of my parents. That's definitely a "hole" in my research foundation that I want to fill this year. Here are the other genealogy projects I'm planning: — Plan and prepare family history interviews with both Mom and Dad — Plan a time to go through old photos in Mom's basement during my next visit home — Create a dedicated research binder to keep my log and contain other miscellaneous papers I hope 2023 is treating you all well so far. If you're giving your research a refresh or tackling any new projects, I'd love to hear about it! Email FamilyTree@Yankeepub.com with "Genealogy Insider" in the subject line. |
