A Revolutionary Anniversary |
In two days, the city of Boston will celebrate a historic anniversary: the 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party. The celebration will include a reenactment which will occur in five “acts,” culminating in the Sons of Liberty storming the vessels Beaver and Eleanor and destroying case after case of tea. The Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum partnered with American Ancestors to create a new program for descendants of those who participated in the Boston Tea Party. According to the press release, the main objective of the program is to “offer research information pertaining to the participants of the Boston Tea Party and their descendants” and will provide this through historical documents, assistance from genealogists at American Ancestors, oral histories and more through a “collaborative genealogical online portal.” |
Membership is not free, however American Ancestors did post an hour long presentation on how to research Boston Tea Party Patriots for free on their YouTube channel. So, you don’t live in Boston and your ancestors weren’t part of the Tea Party? This event is still relevant in that it kicks off a series of important anniversaries throughout the next two years, culminating in the 250th anniversary of American independence on July 4, 2026. America250 is the organization in charge of planning the celebration and it is currently accepting stories from the public about the American experience. Videos, artwork, poems and more are all acceptable. The next two years will undoubtedly bring new opportunities for education, reflection and celebration. We've included a link to a Revolutionary War timeline to help you anticipate what's to come. |
