❄️Celebrating the Light: Winter Solstice Reflections❄️

As a garden company based in Vermont, where mid-December can sometimes bring frozen ground buried under several inches of snow, you could be forgiven for thinking the Winter Solstice might be one of our least favorite times of year. But the Winter Solstice has always held a special place in our hearts here at Gardener’s Supply. 

For one, we view it as a time of hope and renewal, welcoming the return of longer days and later light — the perfect time to start planning next year’s garden in earnest. And sure, the fact that our grow lights are cranked way up, illuminating our houseplants, amaryllis blooms, and winter herb gardens certainly helps to chase our winter woes away. 

But the main thing that brightens our day every December 21st? That was the day, back in 2009, that Gardener’s Supply Company finally became

Having no shareholders but ourselves allows us to use our business as a force for good, focusing our time and resources on spreading the transformative joys of growing through education, inspiration, and product innovation, as well as ongoing financial support for community gardening organizations.
