The Black Fives Foundation

This first day of Black History month, we’re proud to honor the incredible athletic feats and society-shaping excellence of the Black Fives era. In the first half of the 20th Century the sport of basketball, like American society, was segregated. Independent Black teams played throughout the nation in a well-organized, barnstorming circuit that helped produce teams like the New York Renaissance, arguably the most successful basketball team of all time.

The athletes of the Black Fives Era symbolize more than just basketball; they embody resilience and determination in the face of adversity. This collection pays homage to the pioneering spirit of those players. A portion of net proceeds from the sales of our Black Fives assortment will benefit the The Black Fives Foundation, which works to research, preserve, showcase, teach, and honor the pre-NBA history of African Americans in basketball.
