Let them eat cake! It is believed that the King Cake tradition originated in France and was brought to New Orleans in 1870. The French version of this local delicacy is made of an almond-filled puff pastry topped with colorful icing. A miniature plastic baby is placed inside of each cake and the lucky person who gets the slice that contains the baby is known as the King. This cake is a staple in New Orleans celebrations throughout the month, so cut yourself a slice and laissez les bon temps rouler!
