Plant Babies

Creating new plants from your existing ones requires very little expertise, and is a fun way to witness what happens under the soil when your plant's roots grow and expand. Here are three simple steps to creating a new baby plant:
  1. Cut a stem from your plant below a node (the area on the stem where new leaves, branches, or aerial roots form).
  2. Place in water and wait. New roots will start to form anywhere from a couple days to a couple weeks.
  3. Once the roots are at least one inch long, place in a small pot (4" diameter is a good size) with fresh soil, and keep consistently moist during the first month or until the plant feels firmly rooted to its soil.

Keep in mind that not all stem cuttings will root. If at first you don't succeed, don't be afraid to try again, or with a different plant.
