Coffee, for being the most consumed beverage world-wide, next to water.
It’s a rich dark liquid that flows across the world and greases the wheels of our economies. More than two billion ”cups of joe” are consumed every day, and and for many, working life would feel impossible without it.
Coffee isn’t just popular because it’s everyone’s go-to beverage when they need a pick-me-up. It is indeed popular because it’s delicious, nutritious, and easily accessible.
Coffee, as you already probably know, is made in various styles. You can drink it plain like espresso, or sweet and cold like a mocha iced coffee. Coffee has an extremely rich and unique flavor that, combined with the awakening fragrance, plays a huge part in the popularity of the drink. You can drink it alone, add milk, cream, chocolate, or even liquor. It’s great piping hot or ice cold. You can even make the beans in various levels of roasts, from light to medium, to dark roast. All that allows the coffee to adapt to almost everyone’s taste, which is why almost half of the planet are coffee drinkers!
It’s also a healthy option. If you need an energy boost, you can drink several cups of coffee per day, but you would probably feel ill if you drank a few energy drinks because of the high sugar count and unpronounceable ingredients list. Likewise, you probably couldn’t stomach drinking three hot chocolates a day, while three cups of coffee does not sound as nauseating.
Another one of the reasons coffee is more popular in America than tea, which at one point was known to be the most popular beverage, dates back to the Revolutionary War when people threw boxes of tea overboard during the Boston Tea Party. So, it became more patriotic to drink coffee over tea. Around 85% of Americans have at least one cup of coffee at home every day, with more than half of Americans picking coffee over any other drink.
