| | To our Orvis family, It’s hard to believe that we are in the home stretch of 2021. Amid the fun and sometimes frenetic pace of celebrations, gifts, eating, and more eating, the holidays also offer special opportunities for reflection. Like so many others, our reflections of late have focused on the people and moments that mean the most to us—whether it’s a walk in the woods with our families and the dogs, an annual fishing trip with old friends, or the excitement of creating a new tradition. We learned about the importance and power of these moments from our grandfather, Leigh. We said goodbye to him this past spring, but his legacy is as strong as ever, built from pursuing what he was most passionate about—deep connections to the outdoors. When he purchased Orvis in 1965, he cracked the aspirational code of aligning the professional with the personal, resulting in a lifelong body of work focused on his passions. For Leigh, those were fish, dogs, birds, and the outdoor cathedrals in which they lived, and a true understanding of what they do for one’s health and happiness. His genuine love of and curiosity in the outdoors are what fueled his ability to spend over 250 days a year in the field or on the water into his 90s. He also believed that a deep connection to the outdoors is made deeper when you share it with others, which is why, soon after purchasing the company, he introduced fly-fishing schools and later wingshooting schools. It is also why in the 1980s he started dedicating 5% of company profits to protecting nature, with the goal to preserve these natural resources, so they could be experienced by others in the future. With this pioneering idea, he opened the doors to adventure and wonder, inspiring traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation. This holiday season, our family will be making time for these moments to continue to build upon our grandfather’s legacy with old and new traditions outdoors. And we know so many of you will do the same. In addition to our own passion, it is the relationships with all of you that inspire us to strive for the best products and services to support your personal journey in the outdoors. Thank you for being a part of the Orvis family. We hope this note finds you happy, healthy, and ready to create new memories in 2022. Happy Holidays, | | | | | |
