| | To our Orvis Family, 2022 is coming to an end at a pace that feels much quicker than recent years. Amid the whirlwind, it feels important to pause. Luckily, at Orvis our passions lie in seeking and sharing those stolen moments, where the natural world slows us down and invites us to take it in—a trout sipping a mayfly, the V of migrating waterfowl, a dog exploring an early morning scent in the woods. Our shared outdoor traditions are a powerful antidote to the fast pace of daily life. They force you to stop and celebrate the things that transcend time and think about life’s wonders that you hope future generations will get to experience. We are all surrounded by reminders to pause. Last month, we took our five-month-old English setter littermates, Ulla and Pepper, on their first “grouse hunt.” We had no intention of bagging any birds. It was more a chance to let the puppies get out with the older dogs, inhale the smells of the New England autumn woods, and feel the joy and energy that comes with such an adventure. Ulla and Pepper tore through the woods, sometimes pretending that they knew what they were supposed to be doing, but frequently distracted by the opportunity to tackle each other at any given moment. It was fun to watch. That night, as we cuddled on the floor with the two exhausted and happy pups, we thought about the same types of moments enjoyed by previous generations. The puppies’ great-great-grandfather was our grandfather’s dog, and so many countless memories (in the field and cuddling afterwards) had been shared throughout the generations since. It was a moment inherited by legacies from the past, and one that will shape future moments between our kids and the next generation of puppies. At Orvis, our entire team is fueled by the passion to create products, services, and experiences that lead to meaningful moments for you, our customers. And, as a family company, we consistently pause and think about the long term. We want to make the highest quality products that connect you with the outdoors and are also passed down as heirlooms to family and friends. We want our experiences to be searing, creating stories that inspire others to find their own adventures and make new traditions. And we work hard to protect the natural world so that the life-changing moments we’ve all enjoyed in the outdoors are plentiful for others long after we’re gone. It’s why together we’ve raised over $26 million to date in support of massive ecosystems, like the Florida Everglades, to small streams that run through backyards across the country. This holiday season, we invite you to take the opportunity to pause—to share a moment in the outdoors with those who mean the most to you. To think about the adventures and memories you plan to create in 2023. And to think about the moments and traditions you want to nurture for future generations to inherit. Thank you for being part of our Orvis family. You inspire us every day to be our best. Wishing you a warm and happy holiday season, | | | | | | Simon, Hannah, Charley, and Jake Perkins | | | | | | | | | | | |
