That's because the latter is less concentrated and bundled with important nutrients. As we mentioned on day 4, this isn't a green light to eat unlimited portions of fruit. But, it does make whole fruit a great option for sweetening desserts and treats.

And, if a fruit-based dessert just isn't going to cut it, keep in mind that this challenge is about eliminating excess sugar, not banishing sugar completely. You can still enjoy goodies made with added sugar within the daily budget of six teaspoons worth per day for women and nine for men. For example, five squares of 70% dark chocolate contains about 12 grams of added sugar, three teaspoons worth. That's the same amount found in three dark chocolate truffles, about five chewy sour candies, or three licorice twists. | | | | | | |
