Sock It to Me Community Update!

What have we been up to?

One of our goals this year is to donate 39,000 units of socks and underwear! Thus far, we have donated about 30,000 units to our partnering organizations we're supporting in 2022 and other organizations that need our help!

While donating products is a big help, donating our time is just as important! Check out how our Sock It to Me team has helped our partnering organizations!

Transition Projects

This year we have helped Transition Projects sort through 500 pounds of their donations and assisted in restocking their shelter locations. Not only that but also made an in-kind product donation of our own products along with collecting a full bin of donation items from their wishlist!

Transition Projects helps transition people from homelessness and living on the streets into housing in Portland, Oregon. The agency offers programs, resources, and tools to individuals through access to social services including caseworkers, healthcare, mentorship, and housing.

Lavender Rights Project

We had an envelope stuffing party at our office where we wrote little notes in invitations asking communities to attend the Lavender Rights Project's Black Trans Comedy Showcase! Along with this, we also held a donation drive asking for binder donations for those that have a hard time accessing this garment.

Lavender Rights Project elevates the power, autonomy, and leadership of the Black intersex & gender diverse community through intersectional legal and social services. The organization disrupts oppressive systems that target Black gender diverse and intersex communities of color and lead to disproportionate levels of poverty, housing disparities, and gender-based violence, especially among Black and Indigenous people.

Upcoming...

Rose Haven

This upcoming September, the Sock It to Me team is volunteering with Rose Haven to sort through already donated items in their stock room and sub warehouse into categories. We will also be helping them reset their Boutique store and refilling sales fixtures with donation items. Along with this volunteer opportunity, we will also be holding a donation drive collecting school supplies to provide kids with backpacks, colored pencils, pens, calculators, 3-ring binders, colorful folders, etc.

Rose Haven is the only day shelter and community center specifically serving women, children and gender-diverse people in Portland. As night shelters around our community are at capacity, the Rose Haven low-barrier, drop-in model bridges gaps in services and provides a much needed resource.

How we made this happen...

Matt Katz, our Sales Manager, and Community Engagement Extraordinaire makes the effort to help engage our team members with our community. In 2021 alone, Matt took charge to complete donations to over 17 different charities, amounting to a total of almost 24,000 units of Sock It to Me socks, underwear, and facemasks along with cash contributions to help those in their important fundraising efforts.
