Curzan Re-Lowers 100 Back NAG, Breaks Eastin's 200 Fly Record

Teenage sensation Claire Curzan continued her recent run of rewriting the record books over the weekend at the Sectionals meet in Cary, N.C., lowering the National Age Group Record in the girls' 17-18 100 backstroke and 200 butterfly (SCY).

In the 100 back, Curzan first broke the record in February in a time of 49.61, lowering Regan Smith's 2019 mark of 49.66 in a swim that flew a little bit under the radar since she broke the American Record in the 100 fly during the same session.

In Cary, the 17-year-old Curzan brought the 100 back record down to 49.52, a swim that maintains her spot as the fourth-fastest swimmer in history while also standing up as the sixth-fastest performance ever.

In the 200 fly, the TAC Titans swimmer crushed her personal best time by nearly three seconds, clocking 1:50.85 to take down Ella Eastin's 17-18 NAG of 1:51.04 set at the 2016 NCAAs.

Curzan now ranks seventh all-time in the event, and is just over 1.3 seconds shy of Eastin's all-time record (1:49.51).

Queens (NC) Continue Dominance at NCAA Division II Champs

The Queens University of Charlotte completed a seventh consecutive sweep of the NCAA Division II Championships over the weekend, with both the men's and women's teams roaring to decisive victories.

The women's team finished with 536.5 points to lead runner-up Indy (423), while the men scored 607.5 to outpace second-place Drury (522).

Danielle Melilli (50/100 free, 100 breast) and Sohpie Lange (1000/1650 free) led the way with multiple individual wins for the women, while the men's team had Alex Kunert lead the charge with wins in the 200 IM and 200 fly.

Melilli (22.15) and Matej Dusa (18.88) also set new D2 Records in the women's and men's 50 free, respectively.

British Swimming, Swimming Australia Out of WUGs

Following previous announcements made by USA Swimming and Swimming Canada, both British Swimming and Swimming Australia won't be sending teams to the World University Games in 2022.

The British Swimming announcement pointed to the fact that the International University Sports Federation (FISU) hadn't provided assurances that Russia and Belarus wouldn't be competing at the competition, leading to their withdrawal from the Games.

The Games are also to be hosted in China, a nation that has been hesitant to criticize the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Swimming Australia, which announced the news shortly after British Swimming, says it will now send a selected team to compete at the U.S. National Championships in Irvine, California instead.
