In light of the upcoming holiday, we'd like to tell you about the history of 420 and why it has become inextricably entwined with cannabis. 🌿🌿🌿 The story goes that in the early 70s, a group of five teenagers in Marin County, CA were given a treasure map of sorts. They were told that the map would lead them to an abandoned crop of marijuana, and given the fact that it was the grower that gave them the map, they hatched a plan to find the herb! They agreed to meet by a statue of Louis Pasteur, that stood on the campus of San Rafael High School, at 4:20 pm. They began referring to the plan with the phrase "4:20 Louis," and after numerous failed attempts to find the crop, the phrase was shortened to "4:20." Eventually, it was simply used to as an invitation to light up. Now you're probably thinking, "that's all well and good, but why are we still using a term made up by some random kids." Apparently, we can thank Deadheads for that. ⚡ According to an article in High Times Magazine from 2002, one of the original five teenagers went on to become a roadie for Grateful Dead bassist, Phil Lesh. While on tour, he called for 4:20pm to be the official time of day to smoke weed, and as they say, the rest is history. Curious to learn more?
