Plus, musings on my interview with JFL (Jenna F**king Lyons) | | Another week, another award show chock full of inspiring beauty looks, like Ali Wong’s denim-inspired eye for the Emmys (which I haven’t been able to stop thinking about). Also falling into the taking-up-real-estate-in-my-brain category is my most recent Night Moves column with Jenna Lyons, who, true to form, is as glamorous as she is down-to-earth. She’s not only inspiring me to swipe on NARS Heatwave lipstick and blast “Outstanding” by The Gap Band on the stereo, but also to prioritize pampering. In that spirit, a visit to the Hotel Chelsea’s new spa inside the historic New York landmark was everything I wanted it to be (and more!). In other words, a feast for the senses. I hope your weekend includes some indulgent self-care, too! | — Lauren Valenti, InStyle Beauty Director | | | | | | PHOTO: LAUREN VALENTI | What’s on Lauren’s Desk | There’s much ado about Rhode Beauty’s soon-to-launch Pineapple Refresh cleanser–and not for nothing. The balm-to-lather formula is a delight for the senses and deeply cleanses with skin-loving ingredients like green tea extract, polyglutamic acid, and pineapple enzyme. I can’t wait to bring it to Costa Rica next week, where I will also be testing Sachajuan Ocean’s Mist Volume Hair Mousse's ability to help my curls fight the humidity. As for makeup, I currently can’t get enough of Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freeze Gel, a wax-gel hybrid that sculps with impressive hold for my stubborn hairs. And then there’s Addiction Tokyo’s Glow Stick cream highlighter; all the shades are gorgeous, but I’m obsessed with Above the Moon, a pink beige that gives my cheekbones a celestial glow. Lastly, you’ll find many of my future selfies extra luminous thanks to Riki Loves Riki’s new Sweetheart mirror, which you can pop right on your phone for soft, diffused light. | | | | | BEAUTY TIP OF THE WEEK | | “Use eyeliner all over the eyelid, including upper and bottom waterlines, to create an intense base that allows the eyeshadow going on top of it to really pop bright.” | —celebrity makeup artist Daniel Martin | | | | EMPTY OF THE WEEK | Laneige’s Lip Sleeping Mask | So original, I know. But really, truly, if you haven’t joined the cult of Laneige’s Lip Sleeping mask, I implore you to. And if you don’t trust me, trust Jenna Lyons, who can’t get enough. The thick, velvety formula works miracles overnight (thanks to special berry fruit complex and shea and murumuru seed butters) and can be worn as a sheer, ever-so-slighty-tinted pink gloss. As Lyons says, “It’s like putting nail polish on your mouth!” | | | | | | PHOTO: Lauren Valenti | | MUST-TRY TREATMENT | The Spa at Hotel Chelsea’s Sana Sana Massage | On a Friday evening, as the sunset fell over the city, I visited Hotel Chelsea’s new rooftop spa, luxuriating in its warm lighting, sumptuous interiors, and Sana Sana massage treatment. Inside the jewel box treatment room—with original vaulted brick ceilings and an old-fashioned soaking tub—I first partook in a traditional foot cleansing ritual inside a carved limestone basin (a treat for my boot-ravaged feet). Then, I drifted off on the treatment table outfitted with a far-infrared mattress and soft Italian lines for an hour-long deep-tissue treatment. It was a revelation in tension-melting bodywork complete with soft cupping—a first for me, and one that swiftly loosened the tension in my neck and shoulders. Afterwards, I practically floated down West 23rd Street. | | | | For more, follow Lauren on InStyle, Instagram, and TikTok. | | | | | | We independently evaluate all recommended products and services.
