Do you have a top-heavy plant that's started to lean? Try staking! Staking your plant will not only give it extra support to keep it from leaning and/or potentially falling over, but with time will also help it grow stronger roots so that it can stand up straight on its own. Here's how to stake your plant: Step 1: Find a stake or dowel at your local hardware store. The stake should be long enough to span the entire length of trunk or stem. If you have a real leaner or a super large plant, you might try using two stakes on either side. Step 2: Insert the stake in the soil near the trunk and using hooks or plant tape, tie them together loosely in knots that are easily undone. Step 3: On occasion, untie the stakes and gently sway your plant from side to side. This will help aerate the soil as well as strengthen the roots. You can leave the stake in the soil indefinitely, or after a time, check in to see how your plant is doing without it. Over time, your plant may stand up straight all on its own!
