Hello there,
It’s Monday. We’re a little ruffled by that fact, but we made one of those pitch-perfect pots of coffee, which helped. Here are some links for you, depending on where you are mentally.
If mentally, you’re napping in a mountain valley inn in Switzerland:
- You could look out the wood-shuttered window to see this quietly go by (do not attempt at home).
- You could enjoy the fact that when the cows trade in their summer pastures for winter barns, there is a parade where the cows get to dress up with special bells and flowers and make a day of it.
- You could keep napping—that’s our plan, at least.
If mentally, you’re rafting a wild river:
- You could read The Emerald Mile by Kevin Fedarko, which follows the story of an audacious speed run through the Grand Canyon in a wooden dory. The characters are vivid, the scenery dramatic, and the story just crazy enough to stay in the realm of possibility.
- You could play this soundtrack in the background, which captures the sounds of night falling over a small but well-made camp on the shore.
- You could fall into the saturated abstract landscapes of Beau Carey, who dissolves the lines of river and mountain, or reassembles them in sharp, intriguing ways.
If mentally, you’re watching a kettle come to a boil:
- While it does that, you could turn your phone off, close your computer, and breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth.
- You could choose one of the special-seeming teas that you’ve been unconsciously saving for something fancy, and steep one of those. Today is fancy.
Warmly, with tea,
The M.M. Team
P.S. Here's the view out of those wooden shutters we mentioned.
