UNDERTONE COWL

Today we're spotlighting the subtle magic of Nightshades and Daylights yarns from Harrisville Designs with the Undertone Cowl by Tin Can Knits!

These DK weight yarns begin with American Cormo wool, then segway into subtle colors that demonstrate how a whisper-soft dusting of dye can transform a white or black base.

Look closely: at first glance, the yarn colorways seem similar, but when you lean in for a closer look, you'll see they're definitely not identical!

Read on for more info on Nightshades and Daylights and more pattern suggestions!

If this is your first time meeting Nightshades and Daylights, let us acquaint you!

These all-American yarns begin with unbelievably soft and squishy American Cormo wool sourced from Montana and dyed in Philadelphia. The fibers spun into light and springy, 3-ply yarns at a mill in New Hampshire - and they're perfect for garments and accessories!

Harrisville Designs says Nightshades was inspired by the color ratios we see in the "strange beauty of night," while Daylights sprung into existence as an inverse counterpart to represent the unexpected color combinations we see in twinkling sunshine.

Like most of their patterns, the Tin Can Knits Undertone Cowl is a simple project with fun details. Stripes and slipped stitches add interest and a bold graphic quality to this garter cowl. The pattern is sizing is for kids and adults alike!

To knit your own Undertone cowl, you'll need:

Nightshades + Daylights are stocked in our Center City shop and online!

MORE NIGHTSHADES + DAYLIGHTS

Andrea Mowry's Ginny is a classic raglan cardigan that's knit from the top down. It features a deep shawl collar and a belted tie that cinches the cardi closed around the waist.

You'll need 5-9 skeins of Nightshades or Daylights, depending on your chosen size.

The Nevasca Shawl, by Ana Campos, is a cozy, oversized shawl that blends soothing garter stitch with just enough rhythmic lace to keep it interesting!

Fun fact: "Nevasca" means "snowstorm" in Ana's native Portuguese. Calls for 3 skeins of Nightshades or Daylights.

The Perseids Cardigan, by Heidi Kirrmaier, is an eyelet delight inspired by a clear, starry night. It's knit top-down, and the pattern includes two body style options. Choose from two fits: short and straight or long and slightly A-line.

You'll need 3-9 skeins of Nightshades or Daylights depending on your chosen size.

Sarah Solomon's Hawley pullover invites you to juxtapose 2 colors of Nightshades and Daylights to create a bold yoke motif. This top-down sweater has a relaxed and comfortable silhouette with bracelet-length sleeves.

You'll need 3-6 skeins of Nightshades (depends on size) for the main color + 1 skein of Daylights as a contrast color for all sizes.
