Hello yarn lovers! Today we're bringing you a classic (and free!) shawl design that is a beautiful blank canvas for colorful companion knitting!

The Age of Brass and Steam has been knit by almost 15,000 knitters on Ravelry. Loop staffer Chrissy has worked up a new version for the shop that pairs two luscious Malabrigo yarns for a squishy, soft, and color-forward effect: Malabrigo Arroyo and Malabrigo Mohair!

Age of Brass of Steam is a fabulous three-season neck warmer knit from the top down and begins with a garter tab cast-on -- a great cast-on to learn because it magically disappears into the shawl as you knit!

From there, you'll knit and purl your way through alternating fields of stockinette furrowed by simple yarn-over eyelet garter ridges. A tidy center spine adds structure and an extra clean visual interest.

This shawl knits up easily and is a perfect pattern to showcase your favorite hand-dyed Malabrigo colorways! With Mother's Day right around the corner, this shawl would be such a thoughtful gift idea!

MALABRIGO ARROYO + MOHAIR

Malabrigo Arroyo is a delightful DK-weight yarn plied to knit up with satisfying stitch definition, comfortable drape, and pill-free durability.

Made of 100% superwash merino, it maintains Malabrigo's buttery soft standard and shows off its hand-dyed colors!

We're so excited to carry Malabrigo Mohair! This elegant, laceweight blend of mohair and silk is dyed in Malabrigo's famous colorways - you don't often see multi-colors this lovely on mohair yarn.

It works up beautifully on its own but positively shines as a companion yarn when it's carried alongside a strand of Arroyo (or Ultimate Sock!) for an extra dose of colorful depth. Carry it alongside a tonal or solid to see all of the colors in the mohair, or match it with the same Malabrigo colorway in a different base yarn for an extra punch of full-tilt color!
