Who's up for some fall fun? To celebrate the arrival of autumn, we're hosting a knit-along, and it kicks off on October 1st!

This year's pattern is Hug Hug Kiss Kiss by Andrea Mowry!

What's a knit-along? Also known as a KAL, a knit-along is a knitting party where everyone knits the same pattern and encourages each other along the way. When it's over, we all have a beautiful knit to wear!

We'll be hosting the KAL over in our Ravelry group, where we'll be discussing yarn combos and posting in-progress and finished shawl photos! Oh, and there are prizes too!

Read on for details about this pattern and our yarn suggestions!

There's so much to love about Hug Hug Kiss Kiss!

This cozy shawl combines squishy garter, crossed stitches, bobbles, and fun pops of color. Andrea Mowry says the crossed stitches and bobbles remind her of X's and O's - hugs and kisses!

Hug Hug Kiss Kiss is knit in plush, DK or worsted weight yarn, which means it'll work up fast. It also encourages creative color play - choose a main color + 3 accent colors for your color bands! We recommend choosing a light or dark color for the body of the shawl, two colors that are close to one another for 2 of the stripes, and one that's a fun pop of color!

And if you're worried about the bobbles, don't be! Andrea's pattern includes an easy way to work the bobbles (using a crochet hook!), making them less fiddly to work and satisfyingly plump!

To knit Hug Hug Kiss Kiss, you'll need:

  • 375 yards of yarn for Color A (primary color)
  • 88 yards of yarn for Colors B, C + D (stripes)
  • Stitch markers (2)
  • Small crochet hook (size E works well)
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Brooklyn Tweed Arbor: 3 skeins for color A + 1 skein each for colors B, C, D

Kelbourne Woolens Scout:  2 skeins for color A + 1 skein each for colors B, C, D

Sandnes Garn Double Sunday: 4 skeins for color A + 1 skein each for colors B, C, D

Now let's dive into some of our ideas for yarn combos! See our suggestions for each yarn below!

BROOKLYN TWEED ARBOR

Loop Staffer Joanna is leading our KAL, and she is knitting her shawl in Arbor using Mesa, Rainier, Treehouse, and Thaw.

She liked the original colors of the shawl and kept them in mind when choosing her own. The Color A will be the light gray Thaw, and the pop is dusty pink Mesa!

KELBOURNE WOOLENS SCOUT

Scout is a beautifully soft, wooly yarn with a lovely choice of heathered colors. Here, we chose Charcoal, Graphite, Gray, and Sunflower. With this, we think it would be fun to see the dark Charcoal as color A and the Sunflower for the pop!

Double Sunday

SANDNES GARN DOUBLE SUNDAY

New at Loop: Sandnes Garn Double Sunday! This merino is so soft and highly squishable. Shown here in Ballet Shoes, Dusty Rouge, Coffee Bean, and That Orange Feeling, this combination is warm and autumnal! We love the soft pink Ballet Shoes for Color A and that bright That Orange Feeling is a fantastic pop!

Most of our staff is jumping in on this KAL, so please stop in or give us a call if you need color consults and yarn advice. We have lots of ideas!
LOOP FALL FESTIVAL

Can’t make it Rhinebeck this year? No need to feel left out! You can get all that yarny, knitty excitement right here at home - it’s a festival for the rest of us!

Join us Saturday and Sunday, October 16th and 17th, from 10:00 to 4:00 PM for our first Fall Festival. We’ve partnered with Philadelphia makers Liverpool Yarns, Dye Is Cast Yarns, and Bogberry Handicraft!

For Fall Festival, we’ve also partnered with Action Wellness for a fun fundraising opportunity.
