Chunky Novice Cardigan in Biches + Bûches!

Are you up for a quick knitting cardigan? We recently knitted a beautiful PetiteKnit Chunky Novice Cardigan using Biches & Bûches Le Gros Lambswool held together with Biches & Bûches Le Petit Silk Mohair, and we couldn't be more thrilled with the result!

This easy-wearing, classic cardigan is warm and versatile. It knits up relatively fast thanks to the chunky combined gauge of the Biches & Bûches companion yarns, which we stock at Loop in Center City and online.

If you're new to Le Gros Lambswool, allow us to introduce you!

Le Gros Lambswool is a heavy worsted weight Scottish Lambswool that's woolen-spun into a hardworking, 2-ply yarn for warm winter sweaters. This heartier version of fingering weight Le Petit Lambswool has a traditional woolly hand and its stitches plump up and soften beautifully in response to steaming or a gentle wet blocking.

We love the way Le Gros Lambswool plays together with its fluffier, laceweight Le Petit Silk Mohair sister yarn! The colorways are consistent between the two yarn lines, meaning you can flawlessly add depth with a matching, silky soft mohair halo to any Le Gros Lambswool garment - or choose two different colorways for a custom marled look!

The Chunky Novice Cardigan is knit from the top down. You'll start this sweater at the neck, then incorporate a series of increases to form the sweater's yoked shoulders, back, and chest portions before separating for the sleeves and knitting the body. 

If you've never knit a top-down style sweater, you're in for a treat! Top-down sweater construction is different from traditionally knit sweaters that entail seaming together separate pieces to form a finished garment. Instead, the top-down process lets you conveniently try your sweater on as you knit, ensuring a perfect fit. This method also eliminates seaming - just bind off, weave in your ends, block, and wear!

To knit your own Chunky Novice Cardigan, you'll need: 

• 4-6 skeins of Biches & Bûches Le Gros Lambswool (we used Dark Yellow)
• 4-6 skeins of Biches & Bûches Le Petit Silk Mohair (we used Yellow Mustard)
• US 10 + US 10.5 32" circular needles
• Stitch markers
• Chunky Novice Cardigan pattern
