For clients, she told PI, “we’ll lose a member who listens with an open mind and challenged us, but always tried to find a way to work with us to get a solution.” — Harju also lamented the loss of Brady’s institutional knowledge of complex issues like the tax code and the Ways and Means Committee’s other areas of purview, like health and trade, a sentiment echoed by another former Brady staffer on K Street, Monument Advocacy’s Kimberly Ellis, who praised his leadership chops and ability to effectively communicate complicated issues. — “It’s a big hit,” said Rick Limardo, a former coalitions director for Brady who is now vice president of government affairs at MGM Resorts , pointing to the congressman’s role in shepherding through the biggest tax rewrite in a generation — a legacy President Joe Biden is now seeking to unwind. — Brady “was able to kind of thread that needle on really difficult issues” both “within his party but also within the greater business community” — though not among Democrats, who voted unanimously against the tax bill — to build consensus on issues, he added. TRUMP OFFICIAL REJOINS BGR: William Crozer is heading back to his old firm, rejoining BGR Group as vice president of its lobbying team and managing director of state and local advocacy. Crozer was most recently deputy director of the White House’s Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, serving as one of the Trump administration’s top liaisons to state, local and tribal governments at the height of the coronavirus crisis last year. — Crozer said in an interview he looks forward to bringing BGR a “new perspective” gleaned from what he described as the “most robust intergovernmental partnership” in recent memory ushered in by the pandemic, which will be critical with the stimulus Biden’s relief package is sending local governments as well as his ongoing infrastructure push.

CGCN’S SULLIVAN STARTS OWN FIRM: Juliane Sullivan, who most recently was a partner at the GOP lobbying firm CGCN, has branched out to start her own shop, J.Sullivan Advocacy. In an email, she said that the new venture will allow her to “focus not only [on] my clients' issues” but dive “deeply into their culture and values” to become “an intrinsic part of their team, learning what drives them and focusing on where I can be most helpful.” — She’s already re-signed several clients for whom she previously lobbied, Boeing, Ellwood Group and U.S. Travel Association . Sullivan is also launching a bipartisan collaboration platform, In Conference, to connect clients with the skillset they need — like Sullivan’s authorizing experience and the appropriations expertise of Baker Donelson’s Jim Dyer to help workforce development and higher education clients navigate the return of earmarks. NEW COALITION: Three companies — Antheia, Genomatica and Ginkgo Bioworks — are teaming up to start the Synthetic Biology Coalition to represent the industry in Washington. Arshi Siddiqui, Mario Ramirez and Clete Willems of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld and Dan Todd and Paul Edattel of Todd Strategies will lobby for the coalition, while CGCN Group is advising it on media. — “The ongoing efforts of the US government to invest in next generation technologies, including synthetic biology, are laying the groundwork for continued investment, governance, and prioritization of this transformative technology at a national scale,” Jason Kelly, Gingko’s chief executive, said in a statement. BIDEN WANTS TO CAPITALIZE ON GOP-BUSINESS RIFT: “The cautious courtship between corporate America and the Biden White House could play a critical role in the president’s agenda, as he advances an infrastructure bill through Congress and pushes politically-fraught policies, including on immigration, racial justice and gun violence, without [GOP] lawmakers,” POLITICO’s Anita Kumar and Chris Cadelago report. — “It also reflects a seismic shift in the political landscape, where, not too long ago, Democrats found themselves trying to tamp down opposition from business leaders rather than work with them, and generally business-friendly Republicans were aligning with corporate America rather than periodically bashing it.” — “‘What President Biden realizes is that business is now ready to engage and they are an important voice at the table,’ said Valerie Jarrett, who served as President [ Barack] Obama’s liaison to corporate America. ‘Big business isn’t simply relying on Republicans to look out for their interests. They're looking out for their own interests and getting more involved.’” | | YOUR GUIDE TO THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION: As the Biden administration closes in on three months in office, what are the big takeaways? The business lobby said Tuesday it will issue a “key vote alert” on the House-passed For the People Act while urging Democrats to seek GOP input on the bill, which faced an uphill battle winning 60 votes in the Senate. — “‘The Chamber believes the ability of Americans to exercise their right to vote in accessible and secure elections and to be able to trust in a free and fair outcome is fundamental to who we are as a nation,’ said a draft of the Chamber’s letter that was viewed by The Wall Street Journal. ‘The Chamber is deeply troubled by efforts at the state and federal level to enact election law changes on a partisan basis.’” TAI MEETS WITH STAKEHOLDERS IN VACCINE PATENT PUSH: U.S Trade Representative Katherine Tai met Tuesday “with drugmakers and with groups seeking a waiver for sections of the World Trade Organization’s intellectual-property rules to improve vaccine access for poorer nations,” Bloomberg’s Eric Martin reports. In three separate meetings, Tai met with Public Citizen and Human Rights Watch, labor groups like United Steelworkers and the American Federation of Teachers and then with the drug lobbying group PhRMA and another industry group, Biotechnology Innovation Organization. — “At the meeting with business leaders, ‘the participants shared their views on the challenges with increasing vaccine production and distribution around the world,’ the USTR said. Tai ‘emphasized her commitment to working with other WTO members on a global response to the Covid-19 pandemic, including the role of developing countries in any solution,’ it said. Congressional Democrats, unions and civil-society groups have been lobbying the Biden administration to remove the barrier for production in developing countries.” NONPROFIT WHO HIRED FORMER TRANSITION OFFICIAL WON HUGE CONTRACT: “A Texas nonprofit that recently hired a Biden transition official got a contract worth as much as $530 million to help manage the influx of migrant children at the southern border,” Axios’ Lachlan Markay reports. “The contract is by far the largest ever awarded to Family Endeavors. It's potentially worth more than 12 times the group's most recently reported annual budget — a sign of the demand the new work will place on its operations,” and comes months after Andrew Lorenzen-Strait, a former Immigrations and Customs Enforcement official who advised the Biden transition team on DHS issues and previously ran his own consulting firm, joined as its senior director for migrant services and federal affairs. | | — Association of American Publishers has named Shelley Husband senior vice president for government affairs and special projects. She was most recently staff director and general counsel for the House Judiciary Committee. — Nicholas Scoufaras joined the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association this week as manager of public and government affairs. He was most recently legislative director for former Rep. Rob Woodall (R-Ga.). — The Electronic Transactions Association has hired Matt Tremblay as senior manager of state government affairs. Metro alum. — Doug Campbell has been named managing director at Blue Star Strategies.
